our first award winning garden!

Here we created a sustainable dry garden, providing biodiversity and year round interest. plants were chosen for their drought tolerant properties, visual appeal and to attract bees and wildlife.  It is a beautiful garden, exceeding the clients expectations after just one year.

The client entered their completed garden into a front garden competition run by chelmsford city council under the category of 'best sustainable garden 2017' and we were extremely pleased that it won first place. A fitting testimony to the completion of the brief.

The initial brief was to turn the old front garden, which required a lot of work to maintain the mature planting, into a simple smart 'dry garden' style requiring no maintenance.

The clay soil was turned and prepared with a mix of compost and grit to keep it 'loose' before planting up and laying the gravel. a retaining sleeper wall was constructed at the front to enable the garden to be levelled.

The planting list contained various euphorbia, lavendula, erigeron, stipa, allium, agapanthus, perovskia, anemanthele lessoniana, sedum, thymus, geum and saxifrage and we used the plants in diagonal swathes to create a more informal yet ordered plant scheme.

Comments from the client:

'Our front garden has surpassed our expectations also and is stunning. Much admired by everyone who passes by.'
