This lovely couple wanted a garden suitable for them and their dog to enjoy from morn until night. It needed to be easy to maintain and keep clean, interesting, in-keeping with their creative style and also maintaining a sense of seclusion. The clients had a stack of clay pavers left over from work carried out on their front drive, which they were keen to integrate into the back garden.

Client comments:

“It has been an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Sarah arrived with enormous enthusiasm, took our brief and raised it to another level with her designs. Her vision delivered a space we never thought possible, as she crafted every last inch of room to maximise the way in which we use it. Sarah communicated with us throughout the build process and also with our landscaper, making regular site visits to answer questions, offer advice and ensure that things were running to plan. To top it off, Sarah dealt with all the planting and went out of her way to ensure everything was finished on time. We could not recommend her enough.”

The square (ish) space was divided into sections, initially creating a new platform seating area, accessed through the existing large French doors. This produced a cohesive flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces.

Wide shallow clay paver steps lead down to the dining section of the garden. A multi-stem Amelanchier set into a square of ‘missing’ paving brakes up the patio and adds year round interest when viewed from the house. The supporting wall between the upper and lower patios forms a lovely clay paver clad raised bed, adding seasonal interest planting near to the house and providing a natural partition to the rest of the garden.

The feature piece on the lower section is an ancient Olive tree, personally selected by the clients. It stands proudly in the centre of this area and needs only a solo uplight to enhance it’s natural beauty.

Dog friendly plants were chosen and include: Gaura, Molinia, Agapanthus, Allium, Lavender, Erigeron, Pinus mugo, Hylotelephium.
